Birds Like Wires

Tuesday, 12 January 2010 at 10:01

Continuing the tradition of annual posts on dfpx.co.uk, I thought I should take the opportunity to point out a site that isn’t finished yet. Strange behaviour, you may think, but there is reason!

You might have noticed that certain tech-related posts have disappeared from this journal recently. The reason is that while this is a quiet corner of the web, I’d prefer it to at least be a focused quiet corner, rather than one that wandered too far off track. Part of the reason is that a number of my client’s sites still point here, if they’ve opted to have a link in their footer, and while that’s the case I’d like to maintain a tidy shop front. It’s just more professional. Read more »

IE6: End of Days

Tuesday, 14 July 2009 at 19:24

This is happy news! Let web designers everywhere celebrate!

Developing websites that are fresh, engaging, attractive, usable and informative is no easy task at the best of times, but Internet Explorer 6 really knew how to suck the fun out of the whole thing. You could spend hours carefully crafting a wonderful drop-down menu, or lovingly arranging panes constructed from single pixel PNG transparencies… only to see your work utterly destroyed by IE6 and it’s bizarre rendering engine.

I’m guessing; in fact, I know that there aren’t a great number of regular visitors to this journal. But for those that are, and those that might just be stopping by, I had better make a bit of an explanation as to why it’s so quiet around here.

Moving Home!

Saturday, 28 July 2007 at 20:09

The dfpx.co.uk website is going to be moving to new servers fairly soon, so there may be a short period of time when things go a bit wobbly. Generally this is just the delay while the name servers around the world are updated to point to the site’s new home, so it shouldn’t be for more than a few hours.

If we’re not back after 12 hours, then you know there’s something to worry about! ;o)

Update: Blimey, that was smooth… Site move complete!
