A new addition to the site is one of the latest wonders from the chaps at Google. Google Analytics adds some really rather sophisticated website statistics, which allows me to see all sorts of useful information – everything from geomapping to good old browser stats.

At the moment this is running in addition to MapSurface, a funky website activity widget that overlays site statistics onto a page by pressing Alt-X (or Option-X on a Mac). I’m not sure how much extra weight all this adds to the page right now, although I will check at some point, but it doesn’t seem to be causing any troubles at the moment.

Both of these stats packages are very simple to install, just being Javascript that you can drop into the <head> of your pages. If you’re using a CMS or Dreamweaver templates this should take, ooh…. about that long.

There’s a bit of a waiting list for Google Analytics at the moment (it took about a week before I got an access code for the system), but it may well be worth popping your name down, even if it turns out not to be for you.
